Book Review: The Edge of Never (Edge of Never #1) by J.A. Redmerski

Hi bookworms! We're back for another book review. We really do hope that you loved our first book review. Like my friend Kat, I'm kinda new to the New Adult Genre. So far, I am friggin lovin the books that I have read. This time, I'll be doing a book review of J.A. Redmerski's novel, The Edge of Never.

Synopsis from Goodreads:
Twenty-year-old Camryn Bennett had always been one to think out-of-the-box, who knew she wanted something more in life than following the same repetitive patterns and growing old with the same repetitive life story. And she thought that her life was going in the right direction until everything fell apart.

Determined not to dwell on the negative and push forward, Camryn is set to move in with her best friend and plans to start a new job. But after an unexpected night at the hottest club in downtown North Carolina, she makes the ultimate decision to leave the only life she’s ever known, far behind.

With a purse, a cell phone and a small bag with a few necessities, Camryn, with absolutely no direction or purpose boards a Greyhound bus alone and sets out to find herself. What she finds is a guy named Andrew Parrish, someone not so very different from her and who harbors his own dark secrets. But Camryn swore never to let down her walls again. And she vowed never to fall in love.

But with Andrew, Camryn finds herself doing a lot of things she never thought she’d do. He shows her what it’s really like to live out-of-the-box and to give in to her deepest, darkest desires. On their sporadic road-trip he becomes the center of her exciting and daring new life, pulling love and lust and emotion out of her in ways she never imagined possible. But will Andrew’s dark secret push them inseparably together, or tear them completely apart?

 My thoughts about this book:

First off, let me just say that I am so so so in love with this book. I can't even contain my feelings for this wonderful story.

It starts off with Camryn Benett's problematic life. Her life is messed up. Her heart is broken. She's sick of her "routinary" life. Determined to find meaning in her life, she takes a bus off to nowhere in particular. That's when her life changes.

Meanwhile, Andrew Parrish is on a trip to a destination he never wants to arrive at. He takes a bus set off to take him to loneliness. That's when he sees the alluring girl, Camryn. Attraction wells up between them. They both go on a journey that made them be together and fall for one another..but the thing is Andrew has a secret and that can break both of their hearts into pieces.

I was so addicted with this book that I finished it in a short amount of time. It's UNPUTDOWNABLE. It's the kind of story that makes you want to fall in love over and over again even if sometimes love sucks.

THINGS I LOVE ABOUT THIS BOOK:
Lovable main characters.
This is one of few books that I have read which has totally lovable main characters. They have their own flaws but I loved them for that. Their flaws are what made this story so riveting. As you read on, you will feel so attached with them. You will feel their ache and their happiness.

Super hot love scenes.
One of the things that I love about this book is the super hot love scenes. Ms. J.A. Redmerski definitely knows how to make her readers feel so much raw emotion. Camryn's and Andrew's love scenes are definitely intense..so intense that you'll feel hot too.

Big plot twists.
I fell in love with this book not only because of the main characters and love scenes but also because of the plot twists. I didn't really see them coming. These plot twists made me cry like a baby. I was sure I was sobbing towards the end of the book because it was so beautifully written. It made my heart ache. It made me crave love like Camryn's and Andrew's.

THINGS THAT COULD BE IMPROVED:
How about I say that I think there are no things that should or could be improved in this story. It's perfection in my opinion. I hope I am not exaggerating but I just totally love The Edge of Never. It's a story that leaves a mark on your heart.

OVERALL RATING:
I rate this book 5 stars. (Am I allowed to go over 5? I want to give it like an 11 maybe?Lol.)

Why 5 stars? Well, as I was saying this book is P-E-R-F-E-C-T-I-O-N for me. It's captivating and beautiful. It's one of my favorite books ever. I swear everyone should read this. Go. Go. It's packed with drama, romance, sadness, hotness, and many more. I think you would go crazy reading this book because you would feel lots of emotions. I would definitely recommend this book to New Adult and Romance Lovers. Oh and if you fell in love with The Fault in Our Stars, here is a more mature (adult) version for you.

If you reached this part, I'd like to say thank you so much for reading this review. It means a LOT. That's it for now. Stay Awesome!!!

Our 1st Book Review: Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren

Hey guys! I'm really nervous about giving my first book review. Yikes! I usually read from the young adult genre but recently I started to venture on romance and new adult. I have always wanted to read this book but I never had the courage to pick it up. Being a fan of fan fiction I was curious to where this book would lead and I'm happy to say that it did not leave me disappointed.

Here's the synopsis from Good Reads:

An ambitious intern. A perfectionist executive. And a whole lot of name calling.

Whip-smart, hardworking, and on her way to an MBA, Chloe Mills has only one problem: her boss, Bennett Ryan. He's exacting, blunt, inconsiderate--and completely irresistible. A Beautiful Bastard.

Bennett has returned to Chicago from France to take a vital role in his family's massive media business. He never expected that the assistant who'd been helping him from abroad was the gorgeous, innocently provocative--completely infuriating--creature he now has to see every day. Despite the rumors, he's never been one for a workplace hookup. But Chloe's so tempting he's willing to bend the rules--or outright smash them--if it means he can have her. All over the office.

As their appetites for one another increase to a breaking point, Bennett and Chloe must decide exactly what they're willing to lose in order to win each other.

Things I love about this book:

Alpha female Heroine.

Unlike the usual weak and dependent heroine in stereotype romance novels. This novel features a female lead that is capable, career driven, intelligent and hard working. She basically is not willing to take shit from anybody including her boss. She has been working with him for almost a year and they banter a lot and finally they both snap and just act on their attraction for each other.

Funny and interesting scenes.

Personally, when I read I have this thing that when I find the book boring I stall or I just can't finish the book but with this book I was able to finish it in one sitting and I wanted to read the next book which is a great sign. I also found the dialogues funny and interesting. I love the way they argue and just have steamy sex afterwards.

Things that I think could be improved;

More story line

When I read these types of books can't help but compare it to Fifty Shades of Grey just because it is the first book that I read under the same genre. The problem for me was it had too much sex, I mean the characters were like talking for a minute or arguing and suddenly their having sex. It's not totally a bad thing for smut lovers or people who really read for erotica but sometimes it gets tiring because the actual story line is being forgotten or sometimes the sex becomes repetitive that it only prolongs the novel but does not actually do anything for the flow of the story.

Overall Rating

I would rate this book 3.5 stars.

I really did not set a very high bar on this before reading this so I'm not disappointed with the story. I also loved somethings about this story which made it a great read. I really fell in love with Chloe and I truly feel the hotness of Bennett (I also love his name). I loved the arguments of the main characters because it was truly hot. Although, there were things that was a bit creepy like the panty ripping and hoarding (haha). Overall it was a light and fun read.  It also encouraged me to read more from the same series. Also, I absolutely loved the cover art. I recommend this book for new adult, erotica or romance lovers.

P.S

This is our first review so expect that we will get better along the way. Sorry if you found this review weird or awkward or just plain ugly ( haha). If so, you can send us an email (bookishrants@yahoo.com) on what you enjoyed and what you think we can still improve on.We truly appreciate it.  We hope to be better in the future and provide great book reviews. Thank you for reading. Stay Awesome.

VTRinPH- A Recap of Mafi’s, Riggs’, and Rossi’s Book Signing Tour in Manila 2014

April 26, 2014 (Saturday)-Filipino bookworms gathered at Glorietta 1 for a very much anticipated event. It’s  the book signing tour of the three New York Times Best Selling authors, Tahereh Mafi (Shatter Me Series), Ransom Riggs (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Hollow City), and Veronica Rossi (Under the Never Sky Series).

Eager fans of these awesome authors waited in line as early as 1:45 or 1:54 AM (I’m not sure :P) to personally meet them and have their books signed. I was 10th in line at that time. The level of excitement was palpable in the air. I was actually amazed by the dedication of the early birds. It looked like they camped out for the said event. There were about 2000 bookworms who attended the event.

Fast forward to the actual event:
Due to the huge number of attendees, NBS has limited the number of books to be signed per person. Glorietta Activity Center was packed with fans. We’re kind of cramped in that small space but hey if you’re cramped with your fellow bookworms while fangirling..well that wouldn’t be much of an issue. However, I thought ... Is there any other way that NBS could get a larger venue? (Just suggesting…)

Anyway, after an hour of waiting (the event was supposed to start by 2 PM), our most awaited moment finally came. As Mafi, Riggs, and Rossi came out to the stage, we were all shouting. It was really intense. I was pretty sure it took 5 minutes or more before the crowd settled and the interview started.

The interview was quite good though there are some awkward moments with the host. Like seriously, why would there be a question about how Shatter Me is compared to Disney’s Frozen? Oh and there’s the microphone issue. Gosh, they could have checked it first before they went on with the interview. Nevertheless, the awkward moments were filled with nice ones such as the moment in which the audience even sang Let It Go when Tahereh Mafi said that she liked the song in Frozen. Another highlight in the interview was Mafi and Riggs telling us about their love story.  We were all swooning over Ransereh. Then, there's Veronica Rossi. She's so nice and gorgeous. I mean, I can't help but be dazzled by her smile (I know I sound creepy) but it's true.

*Look at Ransereh. They're so adorable right? Who's fangirling with me?*

After the interview, the fans lined up for their books to be signed. In my opinion, that was the moment that it became really unorganized. People’s numbers were called out and I felt as if we were hurried by the NBS staff. It’s unfair, especially to the people who went to the event early. Not even one book was personalized. The authors were asking the staff if they can put the name but they said that it wasn’t allowed because of the number of attendees. To be honest, it’s disappointing. Don’t get me wrong, I am just saying this because this is what happened at the event. As much as I love NBS for bringing our favorite authors here in the Philippines, I just hope that they will improve the Book Signing experience for the bookworms.
